Shampoo – endless rows of colourful bottles that promise curls and optimal care. But which one is yours, which ingredients should you avoid and a few other facts about shampooing!
Types of shampoos and their use
1. The good old standard shampoo. Affordable, washes, suitable for most hair types, but won’t surprise you in terms of care.
2. Moisturising shampoo: If you are the coarse, frizzy hair type, important ingredients such as coconut oil, aloe vera, honey or hyaluronic acid ensure optimum moisturisation. They help to soothe your itchy scalp, combat frizz and define your curls.
3. Volumising shampoo: Perfect for fine hair. The shampoo targets the scalp, hair follicles and hair roots. Deposits and residues are minimised, giving the hair bounce and elasticity. Argan oil, biotin and caffeine stimulate blood circulation, reduce inflammation and nourish.
4. Colour shampoo: They often contain special colour protection formulas, help to protect the hair from fading and keep the colour fresh. Follow the instructions to get the best result. Magnets hold your artificial colour pigment.
5. Anti-dandruff shampoo: Contains special active ingredients such as zinc pyrithione or salicylic acid, which help to combat dandruff and soothe the scalp. Ideal for people with flaky, itchy or irritated scalps.
6. Sulphate-free shampoo: A good choice for sensitive heads and coloured blondes. Sulphates can strip the hair of oil, dry it out, irritate the scalp and cause coloured hair to fade more quickly due to heavy cleansing. It lathers less, so it’s more water – not more product!
8. Deep cleansing shampoo: Especially useful for people who regularly use a lot of styling products or for people with very oily scalps. No daily use; use in conjunction with your normal shampoo. Once a week or every fortnight is optimal to avoid drying out the scalp and hair.
Ingredients that you should avoid
– Parabens: These preservatives are suspected of causing hormonal disorders, but keep your cosmetics free from mould and bacteria.
– Artificial fragrances: May cause allergies or skin irritation.
– non-water-soluble silicones: Although they have a smoothing effect, they can build up in the hair and make it appear heavy and lifeless.
Think about what you want to achieve with your hair, whether it’s volume, shine or repair – the right choice can make all the difference.
